Herbatint Hair Color Review

Hair color processing at a salon can cost around $60 to $150 on average, depending on the length of hair, full or partial highlights, qualification of the stylist, and the salon.

Plus, if you’re highlighting with more than one color, that would cost you an additional $20 to $40 per shade of toner used, according to hiring site Fash.com

While getting the perfect hair shade is rewarding when performed with the help of a professional, it can be expensive to some.

That’s where the value of at-home permanent hair colors comes in! These hair products offer an inexpensive and quick way to update your look without the hassle of a trip to your local salon and the cost.

One tried-and-true hair color brand that’s making a name in the hair color/dye market is Herbatint. And one of its highlights is that it uses organic herbal extracts that are safe for your hair.

Whether you’re going for honey blonde, light golden blonde, 2N brown, 4C ash chestnut, 4M mahogany chestnut, Herbatint offers you plenty of colors to choose from.

TLDR: Review of the Herbatint Hair Color

Product Description

Herbatint is a permanent hair color gel that contains 8 organic herbal extracts. These ingredients help regain the vitality and brightness of your hair. Among these herbal extracts is aloe vera, which promotes hair growth.

Herbatin’s unique formula: The 8 herbal extracts

Aloe vera also has many active ingredients that help strengthen your hair. It is rich in vitamins A, B12, E, and E as well as amino acids and fatty acids that together play part in healthy hair follicles. Studies have even found that aloe vera can help with an itchy scalp.

Another herbal extract found in Herbatin is Limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) which functions as softening and emollient agent. These properties give it the potential to keep the hair hydrated and prevent brittleness by locking in moisture in the strands during coloring!

Plus, it contains Betula alba, commonly known as white birch with soothing and toning properties. Cinchona calisaya is also a part of this product’s unique formula. Its purpose is to protect and strengthen the scalp while the hamamelis Virginiana or witch hazel extract is rich in essential oils and flavonoids to protect the scalp.

To deliver vibrant color to your hair, Herbatint is also made with rheum palmatum or rhubarb. It works not just as a skin conditioner but as a color enhancer too! Meanwhile, the remaining two herbal extracts are echinacea Angustifolia (moisturizer and natural purifying agent) and juglans Regia (purifying agent, intensifies colors).

Our first impressions of Herbatint

After thorough research on natural hair dyes, we were excited to come across this product. Herbatint is a great natural hair dye that provides lasting results. For its price and quality, we’d say it’s the right decision to use this hair color.

It even comes with gloves that are easy to put on compared to thin gloves that are found in other products. If you have dark brown hair just like our test subject and use Herbatint’s violet shade, for instance, it will turn out more maroon as months pass by. At first, we noticed that hair becomes dry after dyeing but if you continue to condition your hair and other products, it’s all worth it in the end.

To find your ideal shade, you’ll have 36 hair dyes or colors to be mixed. You can choose one hair color or blend hair dyes together to create a unique look! The Herbatint permanent hair color gel bottle can be reclosed so you can use it again for later applications!

How Long Does Herbatint Hair Colour Last?

Just because it says the product name says it’s a permanent hair color, doesn’t really mean it’s permanent. In our test, the shine or color lasts up to four weeks but we’ve read some reviews saying it really depends on the color before they add a retouch.

Since hair is delicate, we also recommend you color only the entire length at least once a month or so. If you want, you can only dye the re-growth. That’s why Herbatint designed their bottle in a way that it can be closed and opened again for reapplication.

Herbatint Application

Instructions on the box are easy to follow. The product is gel-based so it’s easier to mix with the developer. For professional results, it is best to separate your hair into four sections. Divide your hair equally using a comb.

Also know that the higher the percentage of gray hair, the greater the amount of Herbatint you should use.

Warranty/ Return Policy

Herbatint only accepts unopened, unused products for a refund.

Herbatint Hair Dye: Who is it Best for?

Herbatint is best for people who want a unique look to express their personality, those with a sensitive scalp, and those who’re used to getting their hair dyed at the salon, but want a more affordable way to cover their greys at home.

What Do People Say About it?

One Amazon buyer tried the Herbatint Permanent Haircolor Gel. She admits it did have great color, but it sadly damaged her hair.

She wrote, “I have friends who swear by Herbatint and, after years of trying, they finally convinced me to try it. They all raved about how it didn’t harm the hair and how long the color lasted. Well, I will admit that this was the BEST color I ever had. It looks so natural and sort of “multifaceted”, not the flat unicolor look that you usually get with home dye. But one application and my hair were the absolute straw for 6 months.

It was incredibly damaging. I am not sure if the product sold here is actually the original, it was defective in some way. I don’t know. but, if you buy it here, I strongly suggest following the instructions and doing a strand test!!”

However, that negative review is only very few. About 5% out of 100%. The majority (72%) still gave it a 5-star rating. One said that she found a “winning combination for brunettes.”

“I have been using Herbatint hair color for over 20 years now. I love it. I mix 50/50 8C Light Ash Blonde with 7N Blonde together and have absolutely no trace of brassiness on my greying brunette hair. The combination is fantastic. I never was very pleased with the outcome of my hair color using other brands, but, Herbatint is a winner!! My husband never complimented me on my hair color until I began mixing 8C & 7N. He said it looks like you finally got your hair color looking very natural looking. I would have to say I agree.

Also, I just began applying a few drops of Jojoba Oil on my hair too and it’s so shiny, smooth, and straight, which is usually such a problem for my hair! My hair looks wonderful. I wished I knew about both years ago instead of experimenting with so many different hair colors to get rid of that hideous orange/red tint in my hair.”

The Emily Company reviewed the Herbatint Permanent Haircolor Gel on YouTube. She said, “I’ve chosen the color 8n light blonde… I really like this hair dye because it doesn’t smell bad. This is more of a natural, less toxic [hair color]. It doesn’t contain ammonia. Now, [my hair] feels really smooth, really soft. I love the color. I haven’t found a single grey hair. And it colored it all [strands] really nicely.”

Another YouTuber Michelle Mills shared, “If you’ve been looking for a hair dye that looks good, works well, and doesn’t smell bad, and is affordable, [then Herbatint is the one.] I have been using this product for months, more than once, I know that I like it. That’s why I’m making this [Herbatint Hair Color] review.

It is less damaging, less toxic, and a little bit better for you and your body. I took the ingredients from the box and put them into the SkinCarisma analyzer. I use this to make sure that my products are clean and safe. [The results show] it is 79% low risk, 14% moderate risk, 2% high risk, and 5% unknown.”

One customer who tried using the hair color gel shared his or her experience. “I’d like to stick to Herbatint since they don’t test on animals and the color doesn’t transfer too badly (I tried Manic Panic, loved the color, but it came off on EVERYTHING),” the post reads.

Another shared tips on how to use Herbatint on natural color hair. “ I use two boxes to dye my hip-length hair and usually do it on the second or third day because I have a pretty sensitive scalp!”

Frequently Asked QuestionIs Herbatint hair color safe?

Is Herbatint chemical-free?

Herbatint hair color gel is enriched with organic herbal extracts. Although it is generally safe and does not contain ammonia, parabens, perfume, alcohol, and resorcinol like other hair dyes, it is still not entirely chemical-free.

For instance, it contains Phenylenediamines (PDD’s), a pigment that fixes in the hair shaft. This chemical compound is a part of a class of chemicals referred to as aromatic amines. The good thing is that it can still be considered a natural hair dye and does not contain harsh chemicals.

Does Herbatint cover grey hair?

Herbatint covers grey hair 100% upon first application. For excellent coverage of your grey hair, the company recommends you to choose colors of the natural (N) series from 1N to 8N. If you choose tones 9N and 10N, they have a low concentration of coloring pigments so if you choose colors from these tones, it would be best if you mix a small amount of 8N to cover your gray hair best.

How toxic is Herbatint?

Herbatint has a general safety profile and has a natural herbal base. However, it contains ethanolamine, which is a respiratory and immune toxicant used as a pH adjuster. A small percentage of people may also develop an allergy to permanent hair color pigments. The manufacturer advises that you do a skin test before the application of the product.

Can I use Herbatint on my eyebrows/ beard?

While other people have tried using Herbatint on their eyebrows, it is not really recommended for use on facial hair, eyelashes, or eyebrows.
