THE ELEGANT YET EDGY BUN
Hello lovelies!
Anyone else fighting a bad cold these days? I have been, which is why I was absent last week…
But now I’m back with a new tutorial! 🙂 This one is especially designed for us shorter haired gals! Or at least you need some shorter layers to pull off this exact look 😉
I had a lot of fun because I actually did this hairstyle for the first time myself, and I love the end result! It’s an elegant, yet a bit edgy braided bun, perfect for a night out.
Let’s go ahead and begin!
You will need elastics, bobby pins, hairspray and a curling iron of your choice.
Step 1. (pictures 1-4) Make a deep side parting and pick up a thin section of hair near your front hairline on the side with less hair. Divide it into three strands and start braiding a lace braid. That means you’ll be crossing the outer strands over and to the middle and you’ll start adding in new sections of hair only from the bottom. You should stop adding in new hair right where your ponytail will sit, when you reach the middle back of your head. You should then secure the braid with an elastic.
Step 2. (5-6) Use a tail comb to part off a section of hair from the top of your head, slightly diagonally until you reach your ear and clip it away if you need to. This is the hair you will curl at the end.
Step 3. (7-8) Now gather the rest of your hair together with the braid and tie it off in a low ponytail in the back of your head. You can use a tail comb to gently pull out or lift some hair over your pony in the back of your head to make it appear a bit fuller.
Step 4. (9-11) Put a little donut over your pony, this will make it easier to form your shorter hair into a nicely shaped bun. Pin in place with bobby pins until you feel it’s secure.
Step 5. (12-14) Now use a curling iron and curl the remaining hair section by section, away from your face. Try not to hold the curling iron too long on each section, rather release it and hold it a bit until it cools down before you let go. Brush your hair out and use your fingers to form the curls. After you’re happy with the way they lay in the front and on the sides spray it with hairspray. Now you’re done! 🙂
I hope you like it as much as I do! 😉
You can use a curling iron of your choice, I used Remington Silk Curling Wand (1/2 Inch – 1 Inch), and hairspray I got at the salon (very hard to read the label at this point, otherwise I would tell you which one).
For all of you who prefer following a video tutorial, here it is! It would mean a lot to me if you let me know what you think!
Kisses from Barcelona!
