EFFORTLESS BRAIDED UPDO TUTORIAL
Lately I’ve been into letting my hair rest from heat as much as possible! My hair is naturally kind of wavy, so after washing I prefer to either straighten it a bit, curl it or at least use some product in it and crunch it, so it gets a nice wave. However I ran out of styling products this week and had no time to go to the store! 😀
At times like this it’s especially great to go for a messy hairstyle that doesn’t require pre prepping the hair! Besides, don’t you just love this effortless, kind of bohemian feel to it? If you do, keep reading 😉
Step 1 (pictures 1-2) Let your hair dry completely naturally and don’t worry about how it looks, that messy undone feel will only work to your advantage 😉 If you want, you can use some product in it to give it some extra texture.
Step 2 (pictures 3-6) You’ll start french braiding from both sides, from the parting to the ear and then to the back of your head. Make sure you don’t have tangles in your hair, you can use your fingers for a more rough feel. Start with one side, leave out some face framing pieces and pick up a small triangular section close to the parting and divide it into three strands. Start crossing the outer strands over the middle one. After three crossings start adding in extra hair from the sides into the braid (every other time you’ll be adding in a section from your hairline to the outer strand, and from the top of your head to the outer strand).
Step 3 (pictures 7-10) Use a mirror to control how the pieces you incorporate into the braid from the back lay on your head and direct the braid to the back. Once getting to the middle of the back of your head, secure the braid with an elastic and repeat on the other side. Then tie both braids together in the back.
Step 4 (pictures 11-13) Pull both braids apart to make the hairstyle fuller and messier. Pick up the rest of your hair in the back and twist it into a loose bun. Secure with bobby pins.
Step 5 (picture 14) You can use your flat iron to create barely there waves. Run the iron through your hair quickly to avoid too much contact with your hair, curl away from your face and let go of the strand before the iron touches the ends. This will create a more effortless look.
The last step is completely optional. Since this hairstyle is supposed to be messy, you can leave your face framing pieces just like they are. Depends on how you like it really. If you prefer to structure it a bit more, using the flat iron like described above will still allow for a “not trying too hard” look 😉
