BANGS OR NO BANGS? HOW TO FAKE IT BEFORE YOU MAKE THE CUT

Hi lovely! Have you ever been on the verge of cutting your bangs but then wondered if you would look good in them? I can’t tell you how many times the thought crossed my mind! Especially when I see photos on Pinterest that showcase someone who looks gorgeous with bangs! 😀 But then I remember I already had them… and the flat iron had to be my best friend! 😉 One thing is certain, bangs can totally transform your look, and it might be a good idea to wear them for one day, either for fun or to try out how it would feel before you make that decision. Best to proceed with caution since you know, they’re a pain to grow out! 😀

How to fake bangs for one day

There isn’t just one way to do it, but it will require a high bun, either half up half down or a regular one and at least medium length hair. Accessories like a wide head band are also going to be very helpful, as well as bobby pins.

I chose a half up half down style, because it seems to be a easier option for my shorter hair.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Part off a U shaped section on the top of your head. Take a hair tie and make a little hair loop by not pulling all of your hair through the tie the last time you secure it.
  2. For medium length hair, pull the hair still hanging down below the loop to the front and place it over your forehead. Take a flat iron and smooth over the ends as you would your real bangs and then place them across as you want to wear them. Next, take bobby pins and pin it in place to the top of your head. Then extend the U shaped section by picking up some hair below the previous one and use it to wrap around the loop. This will hide the hair tie and create a proper looking bun. FOR LONG HAIR YOU’LL DO ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME, BUT YOU CAN USE THE ENTIRE PONYTAIL HANGING FROM THE LOOP TO WRAP IT AROUND THE HAIR TIE AND CREATING A BUN BEFORE PLACING THE END OF IT ACROSS YOUR FOREHEAD. PICKING UP A NEW U SHAPED SECTION  WON’T BE NECESSARY.
  3. The only thing that’s left is to place a wider head band of your choice on top of your head and covering the bobby pins. Now your bangs will stay put 🙂

TIP: You can prep and style your loose hair however you like. If you have long hair you can also to a regular top bun. The only thing I would recommend is to use a wide enough headband to cover the area from your hair line to the bun (adjust the hight of the bun accordingly). This will look the most natural as it will hide the hair coming from the bun and make sure the hair slicked back from your hair line doesn’t show through the bangs 😉 That way no-one will ever know that they aren’t real!

What do you think of this fake bangs hairstyle?

I have to tell you that it was a lot of fun changing my appearance completely like that for just one day, but I also realised that in the heat and humidity in Barcelona, wearing bangs on a daily basis would be too challenging for my taste 😉 I’ll stick to faking it from time to time. Maybe you would come to a different conclusion? Let me know if you try it out and tag me on Instagram @hairs_affairs to show me your results!

Have a great hair week lovely! Until next time!
