3 EASY HAIRSTYLES FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

We’ve reached that point in the year where everywhere we turn, we can find ideas on hairstyles for Valentine’s day. In fact, everywhere I look I see braided hearts 😀 Now, wether you’re into all that love frenzy this year or not, I personally believe that any excuse to show your hair some love is a good one 😉

I’ve heard back from many of you that you want easy hairstyle ideas, and I figure Valentine’s day is no different. Especially since this year it will fall on a Tuesday and many of us might be working. I especially wanted to keep them “short and sweet” because we’ll probably already spend some time on curling our hair prior. You can even use your flat iron to quickly and easily curl your hair like I showed you here, or use a curling wand or any other method of your choice. You don’t have to curl it of course, that will depend on your natural texture and preference. But in my opinion, nice and soft curls give a more romantic vibe and can be achieved quite quickly. Let’s jump right in.

Easy heart hairstyle for Valentine’s day

I’m not a fan of too many heart hairstyles. Don’t get me wrong, I think they look adorable on little girls! This first easy heart hairstyle however definitely gets my stamp of approval because it has more of an adult feel! And did I mention it was easy? 😉

Step-by-step:

  1. You’ll start by taking two moderate sized sections from the front and tie them together in the back. This will be the base of the heart.
  2. Next, you’ll pick up two sections below the first ones on each side. Start on one side and bring that lover section to the middle.
  3. When doing your left side, hold the section with your right hand, then place two fingers of your left hand over that section and underneath the upper section that’s tied off.
  4. Grab the lower section in between the two fingers of your left hand and pull it through creating a loop. Clip it in place so it doesn’t unravel and repeat on the other side.
  5. Now just tie all three pieces together creating a heart shape.

Take it back to basics

I often have a tendency to try and overcomplicate things, especially when I try to look nice 😉 But often it’s just best to go back to basics, in this case a french braid.

Out of ideas on hairstyles for Valentine's day? Why not take it back to basics with this loose and romantic french braid! Tutorial at https://hairsaffairs.com/3-easy-hairstyles-valentines-day

Step-by-step:

  1. For shorter hair, just do a regular french braid from top to bottom (cross the outer strands over the middle, and add additional hair to the outer strands as you go along).
  2. If your hair is mid length or longer, you can make a diagonal braid, starting on one side and ending on another.
  3. The key to this romantic look is to leave a couple of face framing curls out of the braid and pull the braid apart as much as you can! When the hair is curled, no-one will notice any strands that might accidentally fall out of the braid.

My Valentine’s favorite: The dutch braid updo

I left my favorite for last!

Step-by-step:

  1. Create two dutch braids (as with the french braid, except you’re crossing under the middle instead of over), make the one on your heavier side slightly larger.
  2. Make sure to keep the braids loose and when tying them off with a clear elastic, make sure not to tie it too tightly.
  3. Put your fingers through one of the loops of the larger braid and pull the smaller one through it. Pin it in place with bobby pins.
  4. Now grab on to a thin strand at the end of the braid with one hand, and grab on to the elastic with the other hand and slide the whole braid up towards the nape of the neck. That’s why it’s important to keep things nice and loose. Hide the ends and pin this construction with as many bobby pins as you need before you let go.
  5. Repeat the same thing with the other braid. If your hair is shorter, you might want to skip the last step and just tuck the ends under and pin them in place. If it’s longer, you’ll probably get even better payoff with this slide technique, as it will create quite a fluffy, messy bun in just an instant.
